Got the ryse system (4 separate devices) and spent over an hour trying to Bluetooth and update the system and failed on all of them over an over. Finally got a message saying the firmware had a problem and to contact customer service. I decided if it was that hard to follow the first step, and if the problem was with all of them, then it wasn’t for me. Very disappointing.

I have these huge west facing corner windows but sometimes I want to watch some tv after work. I love being able to say “movie mode” to my Alexa and have the curtains lowered and lights turned down. I also use my shades while I’m at work to keep my apartment cooler to save on energy bills.

I’m very satisfied with RYSE’s retrofit SmartShade. It’s used on two corded curtains and was easy to swap out the chain guide for the cord guide to work. RYSE customer service sent me the cord adapters the same day I inquired about them. I also have the hub which works well with Google Home and its routine features.

The Ryse shade is what I needed - it allows automation of existing shades and works seamlessly. Had to mount it on the casing front as the mount and accessory mount would not sit inside the casing and allow the shade to close. Other than that, quiet, easy to install, easy to integrate with Alexa and routines and a great addition to the house.

Works well after DIY fix — connector design could be better
The Ryse Smart Roller Controller gets the job done — but only after some manual adjustment. My shade is large and fairly heavy (9’x9’), the issue seems to be with how the clutch interacts with the bead chain connector. Even after replacing the original connector with the one provided in the package, the clutch would grind through it without catching properly, likely due to the connector’s shape combined with the weight of the shade.
I ended up removing the connector entirely and splicing the chain into a continuous loop using a chain splicing plier. After that, everything worked flawlessly — smooth lift and lower.
If you’re using Ryse with a larger shade, just be aware you may need a similar workaround.

I'm a mechanical engineer and enjoy adding many (many, many) "smart" devices to my home. This is a solid design and works perfectly with my Alexa app. Every morning I say the Alexa wake command and then I hear the current temperature, the weather forecast for the day, then the shades slowly open to gradually illuminate the room with low light. Bravo!

Installation was fairly easy! Would love if some double sided mounting tape was included. My blinds also struggle a bit when closing and not as smooth but may also be the blinds themselves.

Like most IoT devices the setup for a nominal scenario is quick and easy. In my case, I ran into a few details not covered in the setup that made the onboarding experience a bit cumbersome, but ultimately successful. It would be nice to see an update that allows obstruction detection to be toggled separately from speed control. Overall, I’m very happy with the system. It’s an affordable way to enable automation without having to buy new motorized shades.

I struggled to find a workable solution for control blinds within a rental apartment. There are blindroller replacements, internal motors, or outright replacement of all the blinds. Ignoring the time involved, could add up to thousands of dollars.

Do not buy from or trust this company!!! I purchased my Ryse smart shade 3 months ago and have had nothing with problems with the unit, support, and the company. First off, support is impossible to get ahold of. You can’t just call. You must email or schedule a support session which is at least a week out. Second l, the product is very buggy! I was given a faulty unit which is ok, but after it was deemed faulty by support, they told me a new one was on the way. Here I am over a month later and I still have no new unit. Support is impossible to get ahold of very unresponsive when you do get ahold of them. I purchased my smart shade 3 months ago and I am still left with a faulty device with no new telling if and when they will send me a new one. STAY AWAY!

We have tried prior shade-lifting products; however, we have heavy shades, and we also have a chain connector that passes through the chain nadir while raising the shades. RYSE is the first product that is routinely able to lift our large shades, and it also doesn't get stuck on our chain connector (see pic). We love it!

We installed 4 RYSE Smartshades on windows that are 69" square, 10 feet from the floor. We're happy with the operation and they seem to handle the load of these large shades well. We found one problem though: When we installed the bead connector on the second shade, we didn't install it in the same position on the bead that we did on the first shade and discovered the connector will not go through the spool on the shade, making it impossible to close it fully. We did a video call with a RYSE technical person who offered a solution using a device they will provide if we pay shipping charges, but he has not followed through with sending us a e-mail with a link to do that.
Still hoping to get that issue resolved. The device seems to be good quality though.

The installation was really easy which I'm happy about and it works just as advertised.
However, there are a few things I wish I had known before I made my purchase and installed it that I should be aware that I wouldn't be able to manually move my blinds anymore. This is a problem because I cut my chains in a place where the Ryse itself is a little inaccessible so I will need to reinstall it higher up and fill in the holes that I left behind.
Additionally, the Ryse gets a little bit in the way of the curtain going down so I will also need to be aware of that when I move it.
Finally, I wasn't aware that I needed a bridge to make it smart home activated so I need to wait for that to setup routines and control it with my smart home which is why I got it in the first place. The bluetooth connection isn't that great as it keeps disconnecting and you can't set up routines but that makes sense so I'm not too concerned about it.
One small nit I would also consider is I wish it came with a few extra bead connectors because I will need to cut my chain in two places which means I'll need to leave behind two connectors when I move out of this place.
Overall though, I think this does exactly what I wanted it to do and I'm going to be so happy going to sleep to a dark room and waking up to a bright one.

Good reason to reduce length of cord is the tense buildup on one side and slack on the other causing a bounce in opening blinds especially of significant weight. Google never seems to understand but 1 specific command which is "open blinds to..." cant say close or even 50%. Love the device though.

Works like a charm. Tough enough to handle even rough blind mechanicals. Am concerned that the supplied bead connectors cause the mechanism to bind and even break teeth. Fortunately i have enough length in the chain to avoid a full rotation through the bead connector

I have a problem with one of the smart shades. Right after the first couple of uses, it started making more noise than the ones installed in other shades. Then the motor keept moving but the curtain was not opening or closing and after removing the back cover I see the dents on the gear broken.

This is a product perfect for people who live in an apartment where you can’t really change out the entire blind. The blinds I have are quite heavy which made me worry. But the Ryse took care of them without issue. The installation is simple and fast. HomeKit integration seems reliable as well with the bridge.

I purchased three shades + the Ryse SmartBridge to act as a hub. This combo allows me to control my shades through Siri via Apple HomeKit.So far they’re working perfectly, with fast and relatively quiet opening/closing, an intuitive mobile app, and so far flawless smart home integration.I’ve tried a number of other smart shade solutions, most recently Soma SmartShades 3, and this one is the best so far!

There is a connector bead that you have to use with the motor. In my case it is not compatible with the shade. I am forced to limit the travel distance of the chain based on this and cannot close my shade entirely.

great concept, i just wish it worked better!
unfortunately, two issues have come up. first, even with the cord loop accessory, the ryse does not work as reliably with a corded shade versus a metal bead shade. there ends up being a lot of variation with the height that the shade will go up to in the "100% open" position. i think this is because the cord slips intermittently as the ryse rotates.
the second issue, and much more frustrating one in terms of day to day use, is that the smartbridge i purchased in addition to the smart shade, is always disconnecting from my wifi despite being connected by the ethernet cable. this causes it to not work consistently (or really at all right now) with our google home which is by far the most frustrating part of my whole experience. hoping that others are not having similar issues.

The smartshade has been great so far! My only "complaint" is that I did not read the fine print properly and need to also get the smartbridge in order to setup routines for morning wake up.
The motor is powerful enough to raise/drop the blind pretty quickly. It is a bit loud, but not enough to be off putting. The metal connectors provided for the chains (mine is plastic) does not fit too well through the cog wheel that holds the chain in place.

When you are at work and in the road it's so nice to have routines set where your shades automatically open and close. Also love the voice control with my Google Home. I was told using in conjunction with AXIS blind controls wasn’t possible. Yet, in the setup of the AXIS blind control, it offers integration with a hub.
I had ordered the hub, as a result of incompatibility, I returned it for a full refund.
I would like to be able to control the multiple AXIS controllers I have in my home from remote and also be able to use voice (Seri). Please inform me if I’m misunderstanding a detail. Thank you

We have a window on a landing in our living room / great room. It adds a lot of light to the room and the RYSE device is handy to open the blind to access this light. Morning sunshine which can be blinding which means that we can’t leave the blinds open all the time. So the remote access is handy to control these blinds without having to run upstairs, especially important for my wife who has knee/hip problems.
